SWEET AS SYRUP.  (local adoption only) This senior poodle has not had it easy, but her misfortunes haven't diminished the spirit of a truly sweet, affectionate and slightly goofy girl. Make sure you check out the videos in her album. Maple is 12-13 years-old but is playful as a pup around humans. She's especially pleased when her humans have stuffed toys for her. Maple was found as a stray, horribly matted (see last photo in her album) to the point that her eyes were stuck shut. The result was the loss of her left eye. She also has a large cataract in her right eye, so essentially, Maple now is blind. True to her name, Maple is sticky sweet, often kissy and demanding. She will tell you when she is hungry, thirsty or wants to be picked up. She will not mention when she has to potty, so her new family needs to be proactive, take her out regularly and use doggie diapers on her when she's left at home. This is a small, frail little gal so it isn't safe for her to be left outside alone. Maple is smart and VERY independent as far as getting herself around the house up on furniture, etc. Her relationship with her fellow canines is a bit complicated. She does NOT like other dogs in her face. She won't go out of her way to go approach a dog but will snap and lunge if they get near her. A home with very calm and tolerant dogs (see photos and video in her album), or no dogs at all, is recommended. TDR has no information on how she is with cats. Maple is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, is a great car traveler and tolerates the crate. She is being treated for anemia and heartworm disease. She recently had a dental cleaning. It is likely Maple will need eye drops daily for the rest of her life. Because of her blindness and overall frail health, TDR recommends Maple not be adopted by a family with small children.
